The CCCA Constitution
The existing CCCA constitution dates back to when Andy Symmons first started to produce Comet Trios in 1995 (and probably before that!). It has been updated on a number of occasions, primarily when the Versas and Zeroes joined the Trios to form the Combined Comet Class Association in 2005 and again in 2016 when the Duos joined.
Currently, nearly all of the business of the CCCA is conducted by electronic communications with committee meetings and AGMs being held via Zoom. The existing constitution, specifying as it does the use of postal communications, has slowly become out of date.
Changing the constitution of an organisation is not something that should be done lightly but once it is decided that it is necessary then there is an opportunity to receive advice on the current way that constitutions should be written and to consider what is the aim in carrying out the rewrite.
A small sub-committee was formed consisting of Bob Horlock, Caroline McAusland, Chris Biglin and Symon Doliczny. Advice on writing constitutions was received from the RYA and the constitutions of other single manufacturer one design dinghy class associations were reviewed. Drafts were produced and discussed. The final draft has been circulated to all the current CCCA committee for comment and the views of Andy Symmons, Phil Morrison and Glyn Rawson were sought.
Glyn and Phil requested a change to paragraphs 47 and 48 of the final draft dealing with the protection of the one design of the Comet Classes. This change has been incorporated in Version 2 of the draft dated 28 Nov 24.
The final version is available on the CCCA website and the endorsement of the CCCA membership is sought at the AGM on 3 Dec 24.
