The Comet Duo is an extremely versatile dinghy, equally suitable for racing, cruising and training. Roomy enough for 3 adults or a small family yet light enough to be sailed single handed.
Comet Duo is the ideal dinghy to start club racing.
The fast hull shape and decent sail area give the potential for excellent performance. And at 12′ overall, the Duo is very manouverable and responsive on the smaller lakes and rivers, and offers interesting racing with other dinghies.
The standard Duo is absolutely ready to sail but options of self bailers, adjustable jibsheet tracks and jib stick are available for the keen racer. The Class Association is free to join and organises National Championships, Open Meetings, Cruising Events and Class Newsletter.
Great for family fun. A comfortable cockpit has all-round internal seats providing secure seating for children.
A high boom and rear mainsheet keep the cockpit clear and uncluttered. The Comet Duo comes as standard with a slab reefing mainsail and jib furling gear which reduces the sail area quickly and effectively for beginners or heavy weather sailing.
The light weight & compact size of the Duo make her ideal for the singlehanded sailor who prefers a drier and more comfortable sail than the more usual single-handed dinghy. Optional storage hatches, oar and outboard pad help make the Duo great for cruising.
Duo Training (A well-proven training boat)
Popular with sailing schools and youth groups the Comet Duo has proven to be ideal for teaching.
The Duo’s responsiveness in light winds encourages the be-ginner and the reefing mainsail keeps them sailing when the wind picks up. The Duo layout with the ‘sit in seats’ give the sailor a great sense of security and at 12′, the size of the dinghy isn’t at all intimidating. All the spars, rigging and fittings are tough, durable
and certainly strong enough for sailing school life.
Built to the highest standard in GRP, the Comet Duo’s quality and high specification make the dinghy one of the best for value for money. Well proven in the sailing school environment, the Duo will give years of trouble free service to its owner, also and retain a high resale value.
Note: Unfortunately the Duo is no longer being built (but then neither was the Trio until recently! so who knows), but 175 are still being sailed and second hand boats are regularly coming up for sale and there are several clubs with active Duo members (Cranleigh, Hawley Lake, Bristol SC).
There is a high demand for used Duos and second hand boats become available on this web-site under the For Sale section.
